INSTRUCTIONS to make the Cherry on the Top Bookmark!

SKILL Level – Easy/Intermediate

About Pattern: A fun and quirky bookmark, adding a ‘cherry on the top’ to a delicious looking ice cream cone bookmark.

COMPLETED SIZE:  The pictured bookmark measures approximately 6 inches long and 2.5 inches wide; excluding the chain length for the button.

If yarn used is thicker, the size may vary accordingly.

Materials:

●      Light DK/ Sport weight – Cotton/Cotton blend in 2 colors (COLOR1 and COLOR 2)

●      I HAVE USED: Laura Knitting Cotton (Peach and Pink as pictured)

Vardhaman Cotone (Cream and Blush as pictured)

●      Total Yardage: 110 yards for 50g. I have used about 15 yards for the cone and Button string and about 10 yards for ice-cream.

●      Crochet hook – I HAVE USED: US Size D (3 mm hook) for the project featured in the picture.

●      Button/Bead as you would like to use. Make sure the loop at the top for the cherry is big enough for it.

●      Scissors and a needle to finish up.

Gauge: 10 rows of 19 dc make 4*4 inches swatch.

NOTE: The pattern is adaptable to any weight of yarn, the size and thickness of the book mark made will vary.

Stitches used: US crochet terms

ch - chain

yo - yarn over

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

fpdc – front post double crochet

bpdc – back post double crochet

FLO – working in the Front Loop Only

BLO – Working in the Back Loop Only

ss – slip stitch

Special Stitch: HDC Bobble stitch.

(Yo, inset hook into the stich and pull up a longer loop) THREE times, Yo, pull the yarn through all of the 7 loops on hook. Ch1 to close the stitch. (This ch1 doesn’t count as a stitch).

PLEASE NOTE:

·       ch1 does not count unless specified otherwise.

·       Ch3 counts as a dc stitch.

·       Stitch count for 'fpdc' and 'bpdc' is mentioned as 'dc' for ease of use; the post stitches are mainly used to provide texture to the Cone.

Chain as many chains as require to wrap over a book. (I made around 70 chains to go around a regular paperback.)
